DENVER, CO (JUNE 23 – 26, 2014) – Ed McCaffrey partnered with Helping Hands for Freedom for the 3rd year in a row and shared an incredible four day camp with Military children that featured over 5 former NFL athletes, elite Colorado High School coaches, generous volunteers from Kohl's, and All-Pro Tight End, Julius Thomas of the Denver Broncos stopped by and signed autographs. There were 323 participants between the morning and afternoon sessions that were put to the test of a challenging four day "hard-working" program.
"I cannot express in words how rewarding it is to serve military children of the fallen, wounded and deployed. The parents and kids were so appreciative of our efforts... it truly is an honor to support our military children and families" co-founder of HHFF Rod Smith. "We're excited to partner with people like Ed McCaffrey and the rest of his coaching staff to give the kids a great experience and honor the children's own sacrifices for our freedoms".
The main theme of this year's camp involved challenging the children to become a "professional" over the four day camp. We talked about as an example, if you set a goal of playing professional sports, then you have to be dedicated, make sacrifices, be disciplined, and have an immeasurable work ethic to accomplish that goal. Over the 4-day camp, the participants committed to effort on the field, having a new attitude towards family, and taking care of the home through chores and the simple concept of making your bed every morning when you get up. It is the little things that make the big things happen!
Special thanks to our Colorado Program Coordinator, Lauren Beaver, for all her hard work and commitment to serving the military community.
