Life Needs/Financial Assistance

Life Needs

This program provides emergency financial assistance for the families of Active Military, Veterans, Wounded Veteran and Gold Star families. This is based on needs that arise from financial hardships faced when the immediate family is experiencing a dramatic life change including job loss, medical emergency, facing multiple deployments, a member killed in action or suffering from injuries received in the line of duty. We also assist Gold Star families who have lost a loved one to the war or post war suicide resulting from complications from PTSD and/or other injuries. Our charter requires there is at least one child 18 or under currently in the home to be eligible for assistance.

These payments are primarily for lease, mortgage, insurance, car payments and utility bills. All benefit payments are based on available resources. Payments are made to the creditor.

HHFF does not provide funds for groceries, vehicle repairs, credit card debt or personal loans, gas or send funds to the service member or family.

How do I apply for Financial Assistance?

The financial assistance package required documents include our completed application, a copy of the service members DD214 and the discharge must be Honorable, (General Under Honorable will not be considered), current photo ID, a copy of the front of page one of your most recent 1040 federal tax return that lists dependents, most recent bank statement and copies of debts you want considered for payment. If you are disabled, we need a copy of your disability compensation letter from the Veterans Administration. If you are active duty, we need a copy of your current service record. If you are a Gold Star family, we need the death certificate.

All required documents must be submitted within 2 weeks of the original request or benefits can be denied. Your application will not be considered or sent to the committee until all documents have been received in readable condition. No application will be reviewed without all appropriate documentation.

Do not insert documents into the body of an email, they need to be PDF/JPG type attachments.

All applications go through an approval process with our voluntary Veteran committee. They try to make decisions in a few days but may take up to 10 work days based on volume. Their decision is final. There are no appeals.
