A military nonprofit embarked on the Route for the Brave, a 3,091-mile walk across America this week, stopping in Baltimore on Tuesday.
The organization, Helping Hands for Freedom, is raising funds for the construction of a house of healing and a post-traumatic stress disorder center for military families.
Members of the group stopped Tuesday in Patapsco Valley State Park. David Roth, the chairman of the board, said they want to bring awareness to Gold Star Families, a group made up of families who lost a loved one in the line of duty.
"There's not only personal passion behind it, but in every community we go through, every community has a Gold Star Family culture that we need to highlight and respect, and that's why Helping Hands for Freedom is here doing the Route for the Brave," Roth said.
