June 15, 2016 - A teacher and a police officer walking across the country to raise money for veterans visited Lemay last week as they neared the midpoint of the 3,092-mile, five-month "Route for the Brave."

We were excited to host our 1st annual Gold Star Family picnic in Colorado on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Clement Park. We had close to 65 military children and families attending. This is one of our favorite programs. It is an honor to bring surviving families together so they can continue to heal and be with each other.

Dream Chaser Fulfilled at Memorial Day Cub's Game

On Monday, May 31, 2016, Helping Hands for Freedom and Route for the Brave was honored to celebrate Memorial Day by fulfilling a Dream Chaser.  The Hotchkin gold star family was honored at Wrigely field, where Tristan was chosen to throw out the first pitch and the family received personalized jerseys.    The following announcement was made at the game:

A military nonprofit embarked on the Route for the Brave, a 3,091-mile walk across America this week, stopping in Baltimore on Tuesday.

The organization, Helping Hands for Freedom, is raising funds for the construction of a house of healing and a post-traumatic stress disorder center for military families.
